The move to New Zealand brought us to the city of Hamilton in the North Island, and as a gentle introduction to hiking in NZ I've been exploring some local trails in my immediate neighbourhood in the few spare moments available with all the tasks to be done in the middle of the chaos of a relocation. These trails take you through a stunning wetland planting restoration that follows a gully mere minutes from my house. Here you can see a great diversity of indigenous plants and trees which serve as a good reminder to me of the beauty of the native flora in New Zealand. Also the timing couldn't have been better with our arrival in the springtime.
