Flowing through the centre of Hamilton is the mighty Waikato River. This is New Zealand's longest river flowing from Lake Taupo through the Waikato plains to the Tasman. So as a start to exploring my new environment, beyond some of the trails in my immediate neighbourhood, investigating the Waikato River Walk through Hamilton seemed the obvious choice.  The River Walk, part of a 65 km long trail, serves to connect a few parks together, and runs underneath a number of iconic bridges that reflect Hamilton's early engineering pioneering years and connection to the river.
