The seasons keep turning, and as we move into October in New Zealand the surroundings are simply beautiful as the last vestiges of winter give way to splendour of spring. There are quite a number of cherry trees in the local parks that do an admirable job of heralding the new season with their classic display of spring blossom. Flowering alongside are other more iconic native New Zealand flowers such as kowphai, with its tubular, horn shaped yellow bloom, and the flowering flax, harakeke. These act as crucial seasonal food sources for the Tui - another NZ native icon.
