I recently hiked a local trail in Henderson that is a National Conservation Area known for its petroglyphs. The petroglyph canyon comprises some 300 rock writing panels and over 1700  individual design elements dating back about 4,000 years. Getting there required some scrambling over rocks, but the return offered some nice views over the Henderson and Las Vegas valleys in contrast with the rugged and scenic natural Nevada landscape. I also encountered some of the local wildlife - bighorn sheep!

The trail flattens out and shows many hundreds of petroglyph panels at the side of the canyon as seen in this landscape image
