We recently paid a visit to the Hobbiton movie set which is not too far from Hamilton. The movie set was constructed a total of three times, originally for the LOTR trilogy some 25 years ago to represent the town of Hobbiton. It was rebuilt for a second time for the Hobbit movies, and then a third time in a more permanent form as a more robust tourist attraction. Set in the beautiful countryside east of Hamilton on a working farm, it serves as a photogenic site particularly for those that have any interest in the books or movies. Our guide was a fountain of knowledge providing additional interesting information during the tour - very enjoyable and well worth a visit.
