Something of an unexpected sight in the middle of the desert south of Las Vegas near Jean Dry Lake is Seven Magic Mountains - a large scale desert artwork by Ugo Rondinone that opened in May 2016. It consists of locally sourced limestone boulders stacked vertically and painted in various fluorescent colours, with each of the seven stacks reaching a height of about 10m. The artwork is inspired by balanced rock formations and Hoodoos and  that occur naturally in the desert.
